Muhammed Abdurahiman Memorial Orphanage (MAMO) College is a First Grade Government Aided College of Arts, Science and Commerce, affiliated to the University of Calicut. The College is a Muslim Minority Educational Institution approved by the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions, Government of India and it comes under section 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act. The College is reaccredited by NAAC with “A" Grade. The College was established in 1982, as a Junior College, offering only Pre-degree programmes. The College was upgraded as a Degree College in 1991 and as a First Grade College in 2002. The College is situated at Mukkam, 30 Km from Kozhikode, on a lush green landscape. The College currently offers 11 UG and 6 PG programmes.
The College is run by the Mukkam Muslim Orphanage Trust (Estd. in 1956) that received the National Award for Child Welfare instituted by the Ministry of Child Welfare, Government of India, twice in 1982 and 2008. The College owes its existence to the pioneering efforts of Jb. V. Veerankutty Haji (Late) and Jb. V. Moideen Koya Haji (Late) who founded the College in loving memory of Jb. Mohammed Abdurahiman (1898 –1945), the veteran freedom fighter. The earnest effort of the Orphanage Trust to start an Arts and Science College for higher learning was instrumental in setting the educational paradigms of the region and in contributing to the intellectual, social and economic empowerment of the youth in general and women, minorities, orphans and the destitute in particular.
The College is now fast developing and is keen on the optimal utilization of opportunities the rapidly changing global scenario has opened up. Quality of student learning is at the core of all modernization and developmental activities and projects of the College. The College has state-of-the-art infrastructure facilities, including ICT enabled classrooms, automated library resource centre, seminar, conference, and audio-visual halls, recording studio, and infrastructure for sports & game.
Aiming at the holistic development of the students, the College also gives due weightage to co-curricular and extra-curricular and social extension activities. Cordial relationship among the staff, students, PTA, Alumni and Management is the hallmark of the College.
